Tired of the traditional carving of the pumpkins? Really? Well not me!

But if you are, here's a great idea for some simple votive candles you can make for your Halloween dinner party. I think Granny Smith green and bright red would look the best for this project.

First, slice off the top of the apple to make a lid. Then hollow out  the apples with your handy, dandy pumpkin carving knife.

Make sure that you can fit a small, tea light candle inside of the apple. Carve out the face. Put the candle back inside the apple. Put the lid on, and you've got an instant votive.

And your guests will think you're so clever.
