MEET DEXTER

You say you don't know Dexter? Really??? Well, let me introduce you.....

Some say he's a serial killer with a heart of gold..... but I've had this crush on Dex for quite a few years now....and I know I'm not alone. It all started with a book that I picked up at one of my favorite book stores....and I was mesmerized. Check out "Darkly Dreaming Dexter"

Then imagine my shock when I found out that it was going to be made into a tv series on Showtime! Well, I've been hooked ever since, and I've converted family, friends and anyone who might be a bit off center, into "Dexter" fans!

Since then, lots of ideas have sprang up on the web for "Dexter-themed" parties...but I think this one is the best I've seen!

Not only would this be an awesome theme for a grown up Halloween party....how about a "Dexter Dinner Party"? Complete with the box set (Start with Season 1), don't forget the blood-splatter and test-tube martinis, complete with a tasty "serial killer" dinner to go along with it! (think steaks, sausage and peppers or anything you need to use a "really" sharp knife for....)

But remember.... "Dexter" is a bit gruesome and strictly for adults only! (Not kid friendly, so make sure this kids are out for the nite!)

Trust me, you'll get hooked!

JUST THE FACTS MA'AM

Well the numbers are in from last Halloween, and here are a few interesting shopping facts

The National Retail Federation (NRF) predicts Halloween spending is on the rise, and last year Americans averaged $66.28 on costumes, with total holiday spending adding up to $5.8 billion. Consumers who look up “party supply stores” in Yellow Pages local search tools will spent an even greater amount, averaging $109 per visit, according to the Local Media Tracking study conducted by Burke for the Yellow Pages Association (YPA).

Halloween consumers across the country raced to party supply stores to make their last-minute preparations to celebrate the big day. Of the more than 28 million yearly references made to the party supplies heading in print and Internet Yellow Pages, there is a marked increase in searches occurring in October.

Additional stats you may find interesting:

· Families drive references: Married women with families drive references in the party supplies category. More than four out of five references are made by women (83%), with higher than average usage among those who are married and have more than three total family members.

· Consumers make contact after search: 90.5% of consumers contact a business after referencing the heading. While 67% of consumers do so by phone, another 41% make an in-person visit to the store, which is significantly higher than the all-headings average of 23%.

· Consumers purchase after search: 64.3% of consumers who reference the heading make a purchase, averaging $109 per visit. Of those consumers, 59.3% are new customers to the store.

EVIL FUN

Bwah hahahahahaha! Sometimes I just can't help it, I'm an evil little witch....but it's soooooo fun! And I get a bad case of the evil giggles when I think about this prank.....

I saw this years ago in an old catalog, and I wish I would have gotten it. It's called the "toilet monster" and you clip it on the lid of the toilet (I recommend this for your Halloween party) and when the unsuspecting guest lifts the lid..... AAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHHH!

Don't you love it? If you want to give this a try around the house, be sure to check out the you may also like web site for purchase information. But be warned.....once the evil giggles start......you can't stop it!!!!
Bwah hahahahahahahaha.....

THE MASK

The best part of Halloween is the fun....and I love projects that are fun and that guests will really get a kick out of! This was a huge hit at our last party at the manor, and I knew you'd enjoy it too.

If you have any of those friends or co-workers who we politely call.....uuummm....shall we say....a bit of a stick in the mud, right? And they whine and complain that they "don't have a costume" or really....."aren't that much into Halloween".....(really? who are these freaks?) Anyway....I found a great compromise to this problem.

Homemade masks. It's really pretty simple. Just make some homemade masks, or funky glasses....or my personal favorite.....the moustache on a stick!

We have a friend Don Williams who has a big ole burly moustache, and I thought it would be funny to make some moustaches on a stick (in honor of our "fiend" Don) and keep them by the door. So when an un-costumed guest arrived, they were given one of my creations on a stick!

See....problem solved!
